Crime Statistics
According to data compiled and maintained by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Anderson County recently recorded an 18% decline in crime rate, with data analysis showing that the total violent and property crimes slid from 10,791 incidents in 2016 to 8839 incidents in 2017.
Reports of breaking and entering, murder and aggravated assault crimes slid from 2,098, 22 and 1,020 incidents in 2016, to 1,413, 10 and 787 reported incidents in 2017 respectively. Sexual battery and larceny also decreased, going from a combined 6,475 incidents in 2016 to 5,593 reported cases in the following year. On the other hand, robbery and arson incidents held steady with 129 and 35 reports respectively, putting 2017 total property crimes at 7838 incidents and violent crime at a much lesser 1,006 total incidents.
Criminal Records
While the Anderson County Sheriff's Office serves as the main law enforcement service provider of the county, the office does not conduct background checks or provide criminal history records to members of the public. This service is provided by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division which operates the SLED CATCH dedicated to processing state-wide requests for criminal history records and background checks.
How to Get Criminal Records
The SLED CATCH responds to requests for criminal history records of persons resident in Anderson county. Interested persons may request a name-based search from the office by completing a criminal records check form which will require the subject's name and date of birth. The completed application should be accompanied by a self-addressed and stamped envelope as well as a non-refundable cheque or money order payment of $25 and sent via mail to:

How to Get Police Reports
Interested members of the public may request police reports from the Anderson County Sheriff's Office. However, access may be restricted to specific persons depending on the nature of the incident and/or report. How to Find the Sex Offender Registry and Other Sex Offender Information
The Anderson County Sheriffs Office maintains a database of registered sex offenders resident within the county. County residents may search the Anderson County Sex Offender Registry geographically or by name to retrieve information about specific sex offender locations or compliance etc.
Interested persons may also register for sex offender community notifications to receive alerts about recently registered sex offenders who are schooling, working or living within a specific mile radius from indicated addresses.
How to Get Inmate and Jail Information
The Detention Center of the Anderson County Sheriff's Office provides public access to information about currently incarcerated persons within the county via the county's Inmate JailTracker. Inmates may be searched by first/last name or booking date.

Where and How to Get Court Records
The Anderson County Clerk of Courts maintains and disseminates court records of all cases filed within its jurisdiction. Interested members of the public may access copies of these records by sending a written request to the office via mail or by self-serving with the Anderson County Public Records Index.
To request any record or search the index, the requesting party will be required to have relevant information about the record such as the case type, name of the defender/plaintiff and the date of filing. This information will be used to facilitate record search and retrieval.

Where and How to Get Bankruptcy and Property Records
The Anderson County Register of Deeds records and maintains all relevant real property documents of the county. Interested parties may access these records by using the Anderson County Public Access System remotely or by sending a written request to the office of the Register of Deeds indicating relevant details of the property of interest. Users of the ACPASS may search property deeds, plats and other documents by the name of the property owner, or details of the instrument. Vital Records
Anderson County vital records are maintained by various county and state departments. State-wide records are primarily managed by the South Carolina Vital Records and Statistics division of the S.C Department of Health and Environmental Control. However, at the county level, these records maintained and issued by the Anderson County Health Department and the County Clerk of Courts, depending on the record type.
Where and How to Get Divorce Records
Divorce records are maintained along with other family court records by the Anderson County Clerk of Courts. The office provides access to these records through the Public Access Family Court Index which is managed on the Anderson County Public Access System and Services - ACPASS. Interested persons may retrieve Anderson County divorce records by searching the index by the names of divorcees, the date of the filing or divorce or by case number.
Alternatively, divorce records can be requested from the Department of Health and Environmental Control. However, only one of the divorced parties, any of their adult children or a spouse of either divorced party, or their respective legal representative can request and obtain these records. Marriage records are maintained and issued by the Anderson Department of Public Health. Interested persons may obtain copies of these records by querying the office via mail or in person at:

At the state level, requests for copies of marriage records are processed by the DHEC. However, the office only provides copies of marriage records to one of the married parties, their adult children, legal representative or a present or former spouse of either party. Where and How to Get Birth and Death Records
Birth and death records are primarily managed and issued by the Vital Records Division of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. However, access to these records is restricted to:
- The person named on the certificate
- The parent(s) named on the birth certificate, or are an immediate member of the decedent's family
- The legal guardian, or a legal representative of any of the above-mentioned persons

In addition to government agencies, county public records may also be obtained from third-party websites. These non-government platforms come with intuitive tools that allow for expansive searches. Record seekers may either opt to use these tools to search for a specific record or multiple records. Users are able to search third-party websites remotely for multiple records at a time with just the name of the record subject and their last known location, including the city, county, or state. Third-party sites are not sponsored by government agencies. Because of this, record availability and results may vary.
